...I went on the internet and found THIS:
1999 Chevrolet ZR2 Shark Concept. And I really like it. It's like a better looking Isuzu Amigo. Or a baby Avalanche. Also, much more relevant to the OG full size Blazers. I'm jealous we didn't get it here. I would have solved lots of awkward cargo situations as well as the black plastic trim around the rear side windows that deteriorates on every truck.

I've always liked the ZR2 blazers, I tried to find one for my son this winter but all the ones we looked at were pretty ratty. This would have been very cool but I'm sure it would have sold just as well as the Dakota Sport that had a convertible top.

I love ZR2's. Pickup and Blazer.
I dunno about the roof thing. Doesn't work for me.
Also - I've owned an 88 2 door s10 blazer and a 04 4 door blazer.

What irritates me the most is those super shiny tire sidewalls. WHY?!!!

Yeah, I don't know. I guess that was the preferred look of the time? Or at least people know that a greasy, slimy film on your tires does not look good after five minutes of driving and slings crap all over your paint.

It could be that it was something new to my eyes after owning a non-ZR2 2dr for 10 years, starting in high school. There were more times that I could have used the open cargo area than needed to worry about rear passenger comfort.

I had my 4x4 (didn't know about the ZR2) for a long time and I can't say it was a great experience all round. I picked out the truck (on Autotrader in 2002!) based on looks first. I still thank they look great, mine was black with dark factory tint, I later Plasti-dipped the wheels black.
It had electrical gremlins since literally day one where it wouldn't start at a gas station and had to get towed to the dealer. That happened a few other times until I figured out it was blowing a starter fuse all the time. We were never good on preventative maintenance, so we had lots of big bills for suspension work. The A/C went out twice. Cruise control died. Gas gauge went out twice (~$1,000 repair). The mirrors broke off their mountings about 3 times each. And more squeaks and rattles than a factory for baby's toys. Rust wasn't bad, just in a few common areas (in front of the rear tires, mainly).
BUT , I never had an issue with the engine, trans, x-fer case, or diffs over the course of about 110k miles in 10 years (~180k when I sold it). I did always use synthetic oil. Driving conservatively, I could get 22mpg on long Interstate trips. Daily in the city was about 16mpg. I also appreciate the quicker steering rack in the Blazer over the slow one in my current Nissan Frontier. Power was never an issue really, it did have a good amount of torque, although in a small rev range. We towed and launched our 18ft boat (~4,000lbs) over short distances (~10mi) no problem. No complaints on brake or tire usage wear.
It was also a blast to drive in WI winters. I introduced my friends to axis donuts.
If you keep up with preventative maintenance (namely greasing the front suspension), you should have a pretty good experience. It was my first car, so it will always hold a special, rusty place in my heart.

I'll give you that. Man when I had that 2 door I was always frustrated by the lack of 4 doors. Once I went to the 4 door I vowed to never have a daily driver that was a 2 door again lol.
